Meet the Team

Drew Hensley

Lead Pastor

Drew has a passion for seeing people grow in their love for Jesus and His church. Drew is a former Seattle church planter, author, and has served in a variety of local church roles over his last 20 years in ministry. Before relocating with his family to Charleston in 2019 to join ONE Fellowship church as leadership development and discipleship pastor, Drew co-planted Redemption Church in Seattle in 2014 and served as Pastor of Preaching & Ministry. Prior to that opportunity, Drew served as Lead Pastor for the University of Washington campus within Mars Hill Church. With a heart for discipleship and leadership development, Drew has helped start and grow local gospel communities over the past 20 years with an emphasis on helping people go deeper with Christ and wider into their neighborhoods with His good news. Drew has a style of preaching and teaching that is vulnerable, accessible, and conversational, with true depth rooted in the gospel. You will regularly find him saying things like, “With God, nothing is wasted”, “God is in the business of adopting children, not hiring workers” and “God sees you, knows you, and loves you, as you are, not as you will be.”

He holds a B.A. in Pastoral Studies and minor in Psychology from Cedarville University in Ohio, a Masters of Theological Studies from Liberty University, is ordained through the Acts 29 Network, and is a regular contributing author to The Key Life Network. His first book Invisible Grief (Christian Focus 2026) is out now with a forthcoming project Made for Approval (Just Not theirs) coming out in 2027 through Moody Publishers. Drew and Laura have been married for 19 years and in 2019 welcomed their first child, Silas, into their family through the process of adoption. Drew loves calling the Lowcountry home and is excited to champion the vision and mission of New City Church.

Michelle has a deep love for Jesus and families. She holds a B.B.A. in Marketing from James Madison University. Prior to joining the New City team, Michelle served as director of engagement at ONE Fellowship. Before that she worked at several non-profits in the Charleston area. Michelle's passion for strategy and people led her to become a certified coach through the International Coaching Federation. She previously served as a Leadership Coach at a consulting company, where she helped leaders and executives grow in various areas, including goal setting, management, career advancement, communication, and values. Originally from Leesburg, Virginia, Michelle moved to Charleston in 2019 and now calls it home. Michelle and her husband, Harrison, live in Mount Pleasant with their two daughters, Peggy and Laurel Grace. Michelle is excited to use her gifts to help grow New City Kids and see Christ's mission flourish in the Lowcountry and beyond.
